R.I.P. J. G. Ballard

British author J.G. Ballard has died at 78 after an extended illness. BBC News has the story here, although I would differ with the term “cult author”. With a couple of high profile films made from his work, I think he surpassed that status.

I agree, he ceased being "cult" a long time ago. With books like "Empire of the Sun", he broke into massive mainstream success.

I'm a massive fan of his earlier (60's amd 70's) stuff.

So am I. The "cult" remark just struck me, since 98% of the writers lumped into the sf genre are not as well known.
