A New Movie Version of The Stand

According the The Hollywood Reporter, CBS and Warner Brothers are teaming up to bring a new version of Stephen King’s classic novel The Stand to movie screens. George Romero tried to get the movie made back in the 1980s, and there was a fairly successful TV mini-series made in 1994. This is interesting news, and we will have to see how such a broad-scale novel translates into a movie format.

I'm actually pretty excited by the fact that we're going to be seeing reduxs of so much of King's earlier adapted works over the next couple of years.
I know some people have a problem with it as they'd rather see those adaptions stand alone or else see other visions of his later work done. But, I'm of the opinion that while a lot of folks have fond memories of the previous adaptions of IT, THE STAND & PET SEMATARY, each one was a fairly obviously flawed work & could definitely benefit from new takes on the material.
PET SEMATARY is my favorite of the three, but it's still FAR from being the film it could have been despite a couple of decent performance's & it being director Mary Lambert's finest hour.
And, while many see THE STAND as a classic, I never felt that the miniseries had the epic scale needed to properly bring the novel to life. It just didn't work for me.
And IT?
IMO, other than Tim Curry's iconic Pennywise, the less said about that adaption the better. I had major issues with the cast & felt that most of them mailed in their performances while the director put forth a pedestrian effort at best.
Hopefully, whomever gets ahold of the reigns of these properties will have a love for the stories & their characters & do their utmost to bring them to life like they deserve to be.
